From April 11 toNovember 16 2025, the Musée national du sport in Nice will be presenting the exhibition " Action ! ", which explores the links between sport and cinema in six sections. Among other things, it looks at the origins of the relationship between the two activities, notably through the figures of Étienne-Jules Marey (1830-1904) and Georges Demenÿ (1850-1917). Marey, who held the Natural History of Organized Bodies chair at the Collège de France from 1869 until his death, worked with Demenÿ to develop numerous devices for studying movement, one of the most emblematic of which is the photographic rifle. One of the most emblematic of these is the photographic rifle, which illustrates the ingenuity deployed by the two researchers to take quick snapshots, thanks to a barrel system driving a round glass plate on which a series of shots could be taken.
