The Director, the Faculty Assembly and the entire Collège de France community are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pierre Joliot, who held the Chair of Cellular Bioenergetics (1981–2002). They pay tribute to this pioneer of photosynthesis, whose highly original work, at the interface between biophysics and biology, has decisively advanced our understanding of the capture of light energy and its conversion into bioenergy. Internationally recognised and admired, Pierre Joliot made a contribution of the highest calibre to the prestige of French scientific research.
