André-Jean Festugière (1898-1982) was one of the 20th century's leading specialists in ancient Greek religion. As a Dominican, however, he devoted a large part of his career to links between ancient and Christian spirituality.
The reprinting by Belles Lettres of his famous translations of the Lives of Saints in his "Moines d'Orient" (1961-1965, 4 volumes in 7 volumes) - still an indispensable tool for those interested in Late Antiquity and the beginnings of Byzantium - allows us to look back, 60 years later, at the way the Hellenist specialist in Proclus and Hermes Trismegistus viewed Christian edification literature.
The book will be presented at the Collège de France on January 15, 2026 from 4pm to 6pm by a number of specialists in the field. Admission is free.
