In 2015, the conclusion of the Paris Agreement was seen as a milestone in the fight against climate disruption. Ten years later, the Collège de France, through its Avenir Commun Durableinitiative , Le Mans Université and the city of Le Mans are organizing an exceptional day on December 8 2025 to look back on this historic moment.

On December 8 2025, the Collège de France, Le Mans Université and the city of Le Mans will be co-hosting the Avenir Commun Durableevent in Le Mans. In light of the progress made since the Paris Agreement ten years ago, this event will focus on how territories and cities can achieve carbon neutrality and become more sustainable. Professors from the Collège de France, teacher-researchers and doctoral students from Le Mans Université and other experts will be taking part in conferences, flash presentations and round tables, with the aim of combining scientific knowledge and stimulating local action.

The event is particularly aimed at high school and university students. Its aim is to involve them fully in the debate and stimulate their commitment, so that they in turn become players in the transition.

Planned participants include Laurent Fabius, former president of COP21, Stéphane Le Foll, mayor and president of Le Mans Métropole, and a number of energy, biodiversity and climate specialists, including Profs Marc Fontecave and Jean-Marie Tarascon. The event will provide a forum for dialogue between researchers, elected representatives and citizens to explore the levers for action towards resilient, low-carbon territories.

The Avenir Commun Durableinitiative is supported by the Collège de France Foundation, its major sponsors Fondation Covéa and TotalEnergies, and its patrons FORVIA and Saint-Gobain.
