Two facsimiles of manuscripts by Paul Gauguin, with commentary by René Huyghe

In 1951, the main library (now the Heritage Library) of the Collège de France purchased an original reproduction of Paul Gauguin’s manuscript,*L’Ancien culte Mahorie*, for which René Huyghe’s study, *La Clef de Noa-Noa*, was written specifically. This was followed, in October 1952, by the acquisition of a facsimile of PaulGauguin’s Carnet, annotated by René Huyghe and published by Éditions Quatre Chemins-Editart in Paris that same year. For these two publications, René Huyghe received the 1953 Eugène Carrière Prize from the Académie française, which honors authors of works on art history. These two works, of remarkable quality, are still held by the library.
