Abstract
Where do these definitions come from, and how have they evolved over time? What are the issues involved in measuring mental health in epidemiological surveys and cohorts? What are the current controversies? The lecture will be followed by a seminar looking at the epistemology and history of psychiatry from a long-term perspective, in order to better understand the origin and significance of current nosography, and the issues involved in the creation or disappearance of disorders in medical classifications.
