MathAData is an initiative led by Stéphane Mallat, professor holding the Data Science chair, around the adaptation for high school students of Data Science challenges designed using data provided by public services, companies or laboratories as part of the Data Challenge organized since 2018 by the Collège de France. Challenge participants tackle mathematical problems based on the exploitation of these real data sets for very concrete industrial, medical or financial applications. The problems are processed on a free online platform open to all.
The initiative aims to offer a different way of teaching mathematics in high school. These digital experiments put mathematics back at the heart of teaching, with the aim of serving the school curriculum. Tested in several schools in the Lille region, MathAData provides teachers with teaching materials, a computernotebook and a website. The ultimate aim is to increase the number of students choosing mathematical options.
The project is part of the Collège de France'sAgir pour l'éducationinitiative .
The Agir pour l'éducation initiative is supported by the Collège de France Foundation and its patrons.
