Abstract

This lecture focuses on the evolution of reproductive modes (sexual reproduction versus clonal reproduction, self-fertilization), the evolution of different sexes (males versus females, or sexual types) and the evolution of the sex chromosomes that determine these traits. In particular, we'll see that the question of why sexual reproduction is so widespread remains an active field of research in evolutionary biology. The lecture also looks at the evolution of different sexes, including male and female individuals, and the evolution of sex chromosomes, which are also still debated evolutionary issues.
