Drug discovery in biotechnology is described. The initial idea usually comes from a discovery made at university. From this idea, various technologies are used to produce an innovative drug. This new drug may be a protein, an antibody or a new low-molecular-weight molecule discovered using medicinal chemistry. The new drug will have to be tested in vitro and then in animal models. Several technologies will be used to optimize the characteristics of the future drug.
