Abstract

This lecture will introduce the concept of nature's contributions to human populations, or ecosystem services. It will show how functional ecology approaches enable ecosystem services to be quantified on the basis of biodiversity. These approaches produce models by applying the response-effect model seen in the previous lecture. They also enable us to understand and manage the multifunctionality of ecosystems and landscapes.
