Created in 2024 and named in honor of Marguerite of Navarre1 the Collège de France's Marguerite program aims to strengthen and nurture the reciprocal nature of the institution's international exchanges with recognized academic partners. Supported by The Hugot Foundation of Collège de France, the program welcomes young international researchers - doctoral students or post-doctoral students - for short one-month research stays at the Collège de France chairs and laboratories, immersing them in the scientific life of the institution at a decisive moment in their career. In its first year, ten students from three academic partners - the Universities of Chicago, Tokyo, Trento and Uppsala - were mentored by Collège de France professors.

The Marguerite program call for applications is renewed each year in conjunction with the partner institutions.

Fondation Hugot du Collège de France (1979)

1 Marguerite of Navarre (1492-1549) was the elder sister of King François Ist, founder of the Collège de France in 1530. Together, they played a key role in creating the renowned intellectual and cultural court of their time in France. A fervent supporter of the new ideas of her time, stemming from the Renaissance and Reformation, she was an exemplary figure of the French Renaissance as an author and patron of the arts. She befriended many artists and writers, including François Rabelais and Pierre de Ronsard, and offered them her protection. In recognition of her contributions, the large amphitheatre at the Collège de France bears her name.
