Cycle of meetings in partnership with the Cité de la Musique - Philharmonie de Paris in 2025-2026
The Collège de France has invited the Philharmonie de Paris to host a cycle of six free meetings open to all, devoted to music. Conferences, masterclasses and round tables will welcome composers, artists and theorists alongside Collège de France professors for a series of exceptional events.
Since 2015, the Philharmonie de Paris has been erecting a gleaming architectural structure in northeastern Paris, a familiar landmark for motorists on the ring road and a stopover for the world's greatest musicians. Boasting some of the finest acoustics in the world, this impressive concert hall has not only established itself as one of the world's leading musical houses, "a temple in the ear", as Rilke wrote. It is also a place of knowledge, research and sharing, home to an orchestra and a museum, where music is listened to and worked on, visited and exhibited, and taught and disseminated to all audiences, especially the very young. Pierre Boulez, professor at the Collège de France from 1978 to 1995, was responsible for the construction of this major auditorium, which now bears his name. To celebrate this first decade of its existence, the Collège de France is inviting the Philharmonie de Paris to share its experience and reflect on it throughout 2025-2026, through meetings involving musicians, composers, artists and professors from the Collège de France. Music is a pleasure and a knowledge: for a whole year, the Collège de France and the Philharmonie de Paris will be making both resonate in concert.
The Musique! cycle Philharmonie at the Collège de France is coordinated by Prof. William Marx, Chair of Comparative Literatures.
