Abstract
Hélène Tétrel, Senior Lecturer at the University of Brest, ("Speaking, preserving and passing on old texts: Icelanders and their Middle Ages") has shed light on the stakes involved in preserving an ancient state of the language in the claim to Icelandic national identity, around the scientific and political debate on editorial rules for the publication of sagas. She showed that it is precisely because the gap between the language of the sagas and the modern language is minimal that it is important.
