May events at Collège de France

At the Collège de France, lectures are open to all, with no conditions of access or prior registration, subject to availability.

Major events

AI and mathematics for meteorology and climatology

Conferences organized by the Avenir Commun Durableinitiative in the form of a colloquium aimed at presenting the state of the art at the interface between mathematics, physics and statistical learning using deep neural networks. The symposium will highlight the advantages and disadvantages of different modeling strategies, as well as the a priori incorporated in the form of equations or algorithmic architectures, in relation to physics. The aim is to encourage dialogue between mathematicians, AI researchers, meteorologists and climatologists.

In search of a Sustainable Common Future

A lecture series organized as part of the Avenir Commun Durableinitiative , in the form of a round-table discussion moderated by a journalist and featuring researchers from projects supported by the initiative.

In keeping with the values of the Collège de France, Avenir Commun Durable aims to contribute to public debate by providing reliable information and data, based on rigorous and demanding research. Since its launch, the initiative has already supported five ambitious research projects in the humanities, social sciences and experimental sciences.
The aim of these roundtables is to give everyone a better understanding of the ambitions, approaches and expectations shaping this research.

The Comédie-Française at the Collège de France

The Collège de France and the Comédie-Française are organizing a series of seven meetings during which professors and actors will discuss the science of theater, what it means to play, to direct, to speak verse and prose, to embody life and society, to take to the stage to speak of the world and to the world.

Agir pour l'éducation - Reenchanting maths at school

A series of conferences on mathematicsorganized by Stanislas Dehaene, Stéphane Mallat and Pierre-Michel Mengeras part of the Agir pour l'éducationinitiative .

Notoriously difficult, but also a source of beauty, mystery and enthusiasm, mathematics is losing interest among many students. What's even more worrying is that, over the past thirty years, surveys have shown a steady decline in student performance, particularly in numeracy and problem-solving, which, according to the TIMSS survey, places France at the bottom of the European league table.

"Electronic transfer" - Louis Fensterbank

The symposium will present major advances in single-electron transfer, exploring various contexts such as photochemistry, electrochemistry and catalysis. The rationalization of experimental results, and in particular the understanding of electron flows, will be supported by mechanistic studies and DFT modeling.

"Regards croisés sur la géo-ingénierie" - François-Marie Bréon

The colloquium explores geoengineering techniques, the issues at stake, as well as legal and ethical dimensions, and aims to encourage a dialogue between climatologists, representatives of the social sciences, industry and decision-makers

" The book in the Muslim world. History and techniques " - François Déroche

Studies into the materiality and history of the Arab-Islamic manuscript book, predating printing, reveal a tradition spanning eighteen centuries and covering a vast territory. This symposium offers an overview of current research, highlighting various approaches characteristic of this field.

Symposium organized for the centenary of Pierre Boulez's birth by Prof. Pierre-Michel Menger, Chair of Sociology of Creative Work, and Nicolas Donin, Professor of Musicology at the University of Geneva.
With the support of the Collège de France Foundation and its major sponsor LVMH.
The colloquium will be enhanced by two concerts given by the Ensemble Intercontemporain, partner of the event.

"Quantitative stability of optimal transport" - Cyril Letrouit

Cycle of lectures organized as part of the Cours Peccot. Since 1885, thanks to an endowment from the family of mathematician Claude-Antoine Peccot, the Collège de France has awarded annual prizes to young mathematicians under the age of 30, who are invited to give a series of lectures at the Collège de France.
